Five Ways to Add Cozy During Winter

I love to decorate year round, so, it's not surprising to most that I like to add decorations that lean into the winter season. But rather than run out and purchase all sorts of decorations, I really want to use what I have to bring a cozy feel to a space. Today I want to share five ways I like to add cozy during the winter months.

1.) Battery Operated Candles

I love a good candle. I mean, truly, it could be unscented and an obnoxious color or print, and I'm going to be immediately comforted by the glow of the flame. I love to keep battery operated flickering candles in my decor storage--always.

This time of year I love to add them around various spaces such as my coffee table, mantle, dining table, and more. I've grabbed some from Amazon (linked below) and also find them from time to time at thrift stores. Paired with brass candlesticks or glass holders, they bring such balance to your space this season.

2.) Throw Blankets

Obviously, right? Everyone is cold and even if you don't have a fire to offer, a blanket and a warm cup of coffee is cozy!

Throw blankets are an item I routinely keep out. I keep lighter ones in the summer and heavier, crocheted styles in the winter. I gravitate more towards the crochet or faux wool simply because of the texture it adds. Any throw will do though; and even if not used, having one out is so inviting.

3.) Natural Elements

When decorating from season to season, I like to bring the outdoors in. An easy way to bring winter decor into your home is to grab sticks or dried foliage. As it gives a nod to the winter season, it also feels like a refresh to the space. If you cannot find dried florals you love, lots of places like Hobby Lobby sell dried foliage.

4.) Neutral, Warm Tones

When I think about winter, I think of white/grey overcast skies, bare trees, and plants beige with color waiting for the spring. I don't really want that vision of winter in my home, so to cozy it up, I gravitate towards warmer tones.

Some of my favorite ways to do this is by using more brassy tones. These brass quail, brass candlesticks, the worn pages of books, and warm wood tones all balance the coolness of the outside winter scenes.

5.) Add a Lamp

How else to cozy up a space in these dreadful, cold days? Add a lamp! Such a simple way to bring that cozy feeling in. If you don't have a lamp you love, look at thrift stores! You could even find a great one to paint and redo.

I added one to the top of this bookshelf and a floor lamp to the side for now. We love the low lighting at night, so this is perfect for that.

I hope you found one of these helpful. Winter doesn't have to be boring and it also doesn't have to be overdone. Simply adding what you already have can make a difference. Let me know below if you try one of these this season!
