Part of my Living Room Mood Board included several stoneware vases and lamps. (If you missed that, read it here.) Even though I love that look, I cannot afford a bunch of those vases. A small seven inch stone vase can be over fifty dollars...I think I'll DIY to dupe.
I have always admired Natalie from My Vintage Porch. She is so good at repurposing items, making thrifted items look like expensive pieces.
I followed her tutorial on painting with baking soda and paint to get the right texture and look. You can read the full tutorial here.
I found these vases at Goodwill and on Facebook Marketplace. The most expensive one was the Facebook one (red one on the left) that I found for $15. The others were $7, $4, and 75¢. All four for less than $30.
my color palette
I knew for the largest one I wanted a simple cream color. I followed Natalie's tip of no real ratio of paint to baking soda. I just added baking soda until I got a consistency I liked. Two coats of the mix transformed this vase into a stone-like vessel.
I wanted to kind of blend various paint colors on these two vases for a little more of a "worn" vintage effect. I started with a light brown paint.
I then stippled on white and then some black, using a rag to blend it in. You can read more about that on Natalie's tutorial.
I love the way these blended and turned out.
I love the western design on this vase, but the gold had to go. I love the look of the matte black of this one.
These were so easy to do! I plan to use the same technique on a lamp or two in the near future.
Be sure to go see Natalie's post! It's so much more detailed and the lamps she transformed are perfection.
Thanks for stopping by today!
